Patriot Disposal: New Changes to Residential Recycling

In the past month we have experienced extremely high levels of contaminated recycle loads due to the use of plastic bags. The use of plastics bags causes many issues, mainly by clogging the machinery at the recycling facilities. We implore you to no longer use plastic bags to bundle recycling or recycle plastic bags all together. You can take plastic grocery bags back to the grocery store for recycling.

The practice of removing plastic bags from our local recycling stream will reduce strain on our recycling facilities and landfills. Contamination is the primary reason why recycling is ending up in the landfills. Please help increase our local recycling footprint while reducing pressure on our local haulers and disposal facilities.

Road Repairs Scheduled

You may have noticed some markings on our community roads.  We have contracted to get some much needed road repairs completed.  Look for crews out after the first of the year.

Patriot Disposal: Recycling Guideline Revision

Dear Property Manager:

In a previous message sent to you in August, we had communicated the recent changes in the local and global recycling market. The main contributing factor for these changes is the strict regulations China has placed on imported recyclable materials. Please click the following link to learn about China’s “National Sword” policy. In response to this changing environment, we have decided that residents and commercial customers are no longer required to recycle glass.

Recycled glass can be a benefit, however the cost of transporting and processing recycled glass makes used glass nearly worthless. Glass manufacturers also prefer to utilize the process of creating glass out of sand rather than recycled glass to ensure quality standards. This is the preferred method due to the high levels of contamination in recyclable materials.

We understand this is a large change to normal recycling practices. The decision to no longer require glass recycling does not mean we will not be accepting glass. It is simply to help cut down on expensive processes that endanger our laborers and damage our trucks. Waste Management made a similar decision this time last year, click here to learn more.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please contact your sales representative. If you manage an HOA community, please help us communicate this information to the residents of the community.

Again, thank you for your business and let us know if you have any questions concerning this notice.

Respectfully,

Patriot Disposal

Road Patching

Those of you who have shown up at the annual meetings and have been keeping up to date on our website know that we have had some very large and expensive projects over the last couple years.  During this time we have had no choice but to cut back on road repairs so we were sure we had the funds to cover our normal operating expenses.

In the next few weeks we are going to have the roads repaired and in the spring re-tarred/chipped.

Leaning Tree At Community Entrance

Many of you may have noticed a tree leaning over the road at the entrance to Gailla Woods and thought it was just a matter of time before it fell on the road.  We saw it too and contacted the builders of the new house on the corner of Token Valley and Bethel to see if they would take care of it.  They said it was not their tree and we were welcome to take it down.  Yesterday, two of our board members and a neighbor cut down the tree.
