Glass Not Recyclable with Patriot Disposal!

Late last year and again a few months back a notice was sent (as well as posted on this site) to all of Patriot Disposal customers informing us that glass was no longer being accepted in the recycle container.  If glass was seen in the container the entire contents were then labeled as trash and disposed into the trash truck instead of the recycle truck.  At the landfill there is glass recycle containers so if you still want to recycle your glass you can take it there.

Here is copy of letter again:

Re:         Glass Recycling

Effective October 1, 2019, Fairfax and Prince William Counties no longer mandate that glass be collected at curbside for recycling.  Therefore, effective November 11, 2019, Patriot Disposal will no longer pick up glass as part of recycling.  Customers are encouraged to re-use glass containers, bring them to a purple bin located in Fairfax County, Alexandria, Arlington, and Prince William County, or put them in with the regular trash for pickup.
Beginning on November 11th, recycling that contains glass will be considered contaminated and will not be picked up.

Please visit the following websites for additional information regarding glass recycling:

We anticipate that Loudoun and Arlington Counties may soon implement the same policy. Should this occur, we will notify you promptly.  Thank you in advance for your attention to this change.  If you have any questions, please contact our customer service department at 703-257-7100.

Sincerely,
Patriot Disposal

Patriot Disposal: Updated Changes to Residential Recycling

Since we last communicated with you on the subject of recycling collection, there has been a change that impacts your community. This week we have been informed that Republic Services is again able to receive our recycling material after an upgrade to their facility was recently completed. This will allow us to have a guaranteed facility to accept your recycling materials (assuming they do not stop accepting our material again).

We also wanted to take the time to ask you to emphasize with your homeowners that plastic bags should not placed with recycling nor should they be used to contain recycling materials. They clog the screening equipment in the recycling facilities and cause significant slowdowns in the sorting process.

As you likely have seen in the news recently, U. S. recycling markets have a long way to go to recover from the impacts of China’s import ban but over time the markets should adjust and create domestic demand for our materials.

We appreciate your patience in these difficult times and look forward to managing your solid waste and disposal needs.
